Cheese balls is a great snack that will work at any party. They are appealing both visually and by taste.
The base of the ball is a creamy cheese mixture coated in a topping of your choice. There is a large variety of toppings you may use. It all depends on what kind of guests you expect and what taste preferences they have.
Ingredients for cheese balls.
- 150 g of creme cheese e.g. light cheese
- 250 g of quark cheese
- 3 halves of sun dried tomatoes in olive oil
- a small bunch of fresh basil
- 1/2 flat teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoons of sesame seeds
- 3 teaspoons of fenugreek
- 2 tablespoons of flax-seeds
- 1 teaspoon of harissa powder
- 1 teaspoon of dried wild garlic
- bread sticks
How to make cheese balls.
Put the cream cheese and curd in a tall container. Add salt and mix.
Cut the dried tomatoes into very small cubes. Finely chop the basil. Add the tomatoes and the basil to the cheese and mix thoroughly. Put the cheese mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Prepare two bowls. Add sesame and black cumin to one and wild garlic, harissa and linseed to the other. Mix the ingredients in each bowl.
Take the cheese mixture out of the fridge. Use two teaspoons to form something like small balls. Do not transfer the balls to your hands, but to the bowls in which they are sprinkled. Roll each ball in the sprinkles. Insert half of the bread stick into the center of the ball.
Cool the cheese balls in the fridge.
Good to know when making cheese balls.
If you don’t have harissa, you can go for hot ground peppers or fresh chili peppers.
The balls can be coated in any spice of your choice. As a topping, for example, fresh chives, parsley, dried tomatoes (but not pickled), dried Provence herbs, bacon, curry or nuts will work great.
The balls I made had a diameter of 3 centimetres. I managed to make 25 balls from the above mentioned amount of ingredients.
