Crumble
Crumble is an easy-to-prepare topping to yeast cakes, shortcrust pastries, hot desserts and fruit. This sweet topping can be made from three ingredients only: flour, sugar and fat. You can choose both cake flour and all-purpose flour. Powdered sugar is best for preparing crumble, although you can also use granulated sugar. The fat that is the base of the crumble is usually butter, although the crumble can also be made by combining butter with lard or margarine. The ideal crumble consists of lumps of various sizes, and their size depends on how well you crumble it with your hands, whether you break the mix into larger or smaller pieces. Making crumble takes less than 5 minutes, so it’s worth using it as a sweet topping for cakes. I encourage you to try the recipe for crumble below, and I hope you will enjoy it.

Ingredients for crumble.
- 100 g soft butter
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 150 g all-purpose flour

How to make crumble.
Pour the flour sifted through a sieve into a bowl, add the powdered sugar also sifted through a sieve, and soft butter. Rub the ingredients together with your hands until they start to combine – about 3-4 minutes. The well-combined ingredients can be easily kneaded into a ball that does not fall apart but is easy to crush. Place the crumble onto a cake immediately or keep it in the fridge before using it.

Good to know when making crumble.
The crumble can be prepared either from soft or cold butter. It is a good idea to cut the butter into cubes before use, which will allow the ingredients to combine faster.
