Fried cauliflower with ajvar dip
Fried cauliflower or fried broccoli are very easy to make.
Although, they are delicious, I do not eat them often because I need to take care of my lines 😉
When I make fried veggies, I usually serve them simply with sauce.
I do not add meat or any other kind of additions, as they are unnecessary.
Sometimes, I use ajvar dip, which goes very well with juicy cauliflower.
Ajvar is a dip made from roasted bell peppers, eggplant and garlic.
It originates from Serbian cuisine and I can enjoy it freshly made every year in Croatia 🙂
It is definitely worth trying this sauce, if you haven’t yet, go for it and next time you’re having grilled meat, eat it with some ajvar on it. In the Balkans they also serve it in rolls filled with grilled cevapi.

Ingredients for cauliflower and ajvar dip.
- 1 medium size cauliflower
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoon of plain flour
- 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- oil for frying
Ajvar:
- 4 big red bell peppers (or mix of peppers)
- 1 medium eggplant
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1/6 cup of olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
How to prepare fried cauliflower.
Wash the cauliflower, dry it with a paper towel and divide it into medium sized roses.
Salt the cauliflower pieces then sprinkle them with flour, cover with beaten eggs and with breadcrumbs. Repeat this last step with the eggs and the breadcrumbs one more time.
Pour the oil into a pot. Warm it up. When the oil is hot, add the cauliflower. Fry on a low heat until golden colour. Turn them over from time to time. Remove the fried cauliflower and drain it on a paper towel.
Wash the peppers, cut them in halves and remove the seeds. Cut the eggplant into two-inch circles. Mix the peppers together with the eggplant, garlic (whole cloves), salt and pepper in a bowl and sprinkle them with olive oil. Place the vegetables on the baking sheet. The peppers should be placed with the skin up. Bake them without a cover in the oven heated to 180 degrees Celsius for 50 minutes. Remove the baked vegetables from the oven, leave them on the baking sheet and cover with aluminum foil until they cool down. Peel the garlic. When vegetables are already cold, blend them. You can add extra salt and oil according to taste.
Serve with the fried, warm cauliflower.
Enjoy!

Good to know when making ajvar and cauliflower.
The peppers can be baked under the grill but I personally do not like when the skin is burned.
