Cabbage cakes with tomato sauce

Lazy cabbage rolls

| |

Lazy cabbage rolls, also called in Polish unrolled cabbage rolls, are prepared in a slightly different way than traditional cabbage rolls. In traditional cabbage rolls, the stuffing is wrapped in a cabbage leaf, while in lazy cabbage rolls all the ingredients are combined together. When it comes to the ingredients of lazy cabbage rolls, the basis is, of course, cabbage, to which minced meat and most often rice is added. The recipe for lazy cabbage rolls, which you can find below, does not contain rice, I used semolina instead. I always make my lazy cabbage rolls this way, and I borrowed this recipe a long time ago from my mother. I serve these cabbage rolls with tomato sauce and a little sour cream on top.

How to make lazy cabbage rolls.

Dice the onion into small cubes and put it in a frying pan along with a tablespoon of oil. Fry on a low heat for about 7-8 minutes. Next, let the fried onion cool down. Clean the cabbage, finely chop or shred it, remembering to remove the core of the cabbage. Next, put the shredded cabbage into a bowl, add salt, and set it aside for 20 minutes. Then add pepper, paprika, cumin, fried onion, minced meat, eggs and semolina. Mix it all thoroughly and form small balls. Scoop up some of the mass with a spoon, put it on your hand, shape it into a ball, then flatten it slightly.

After shaping the cakes, coat them in flour. Pour oil into a pan and heat it up. When the oil is hot enough, put the cabbage cakes on it. Fry the lazy cabbage rolls over a medium heat for about 8 minutes, until golden brown on both sides. Place the fried cabbage cakes next to one another in the baking dish.

Preparation of tomato sauce.

Pour the tomato sauce, cream, water, salt, pepper and oregano into a pot. Bring to a boil and then simmer over a medium heat for 4 minutes.

Cover the cabbage cakes placed in the baking dish with tomato sauce, then put them in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for 50 minutes to one hour.

Put the baked cabbage rolls on a plate, pour over the tomato sauce and decorate with a sour cream cake.
